Your Online Voices is now closed

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in the Your Online Voices Big Conversation. Since 15 March more than 16,000 contributions – a combination of ideas, comments and votes – have been shared in the largest public conversation of its kind in Europe.

By sharing your beliefs, expectations and hopes around data-driven online advertising, you have helped to give the advertising industry in Europe a greater understanding of how you want data-driven advertising to work. This will directly influence the way the digital advertising industry will be self-regulated and where the responsibility bar is set in the future.

What is Your Online Voices

The destination for people across Europe to have a Big Conversation about data-driven advertising.

You are invited to share your expectations, hopes and fears around data-driven online advertising – in an anonymous online conversation.

The European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA) wants to understand how you want personalised advertising to work, so that it can update its standards and governance tools for the European online advertising industry – in a way that aligns with what is useful, and comfortable for you.

Why are we doing this

The online advertising landscape is changing and the advertising industry in Europe has a responsibility to respond. Current research tells us that most people are happy to see relevant advertising but often feel concerned about how it is served to them and are not sure who they can trust.

Because of this, the EDAA is ready to act now and find better ways for the advertising industry to meet your expectations. As they update their self-regulatory guidelines, they want to ensure the changes are fully informed by the people it aims to serve.

How it works

The Your Online Voices Big Conversation will be a large-scale engagement similar to a traditional in-person workshop, but much more inclusive, accessible and transparent. We can also involve more people (not just those who can fit in a physical room), allowing us to hear from people right across Europe – giving everyone who wants to take part a voice.

The Big Conversation will be held on an interactive online platform, similar to a forum, that is facilitated by an independent external partner. To make it easier to say what you really think, you will be able to join anonymously, share ideas and comments, and cast votes for those you like or dislike.

The Your Online Voices Big Conversation is taking place in both English and French – you have a choice in whichever conversation you would like to be a part of. Input to both conversations will be combined in the final analysis, so your contributions, no matter which language you choose, will all count.

The Big Conversation is

  • Anonymous – your name is not attached to anything you share
  • Open to the public in Europe – to share their views on data-driven advertising
  • For everyone to share their views – by posting ideas as well as reading, voting and commenting on the ideas of others
  • Always on – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week while the conversation is live
  • Accessible – from wherever you may be, on any computer, tablet or smartphone
  • Bilingual – in both English and French
